After the Rain Markasite Necklace

Some landscapes become more beautiful after the weather moves through.

After the Rain is built around a remarkable piece of marcasite, filled with silvery, branching formations that spread across its dark surface like lichen on wet stone or the delicate shadows of bare trees.

Rather than enclosing the stone in a traditional bezel, it is held by hand-formed sterling silver prongs, leaving its irregular shape and natural edges visible. The setting is intentionally spare, allowing the unusual markings, small pockets and imperfections within the stone to remain part of its character rather than something to hide.
The pendant is suspended from both sides on a delicate sterling silver chain, giving the stone the feeling of being quietly balanced at the center. The silver has been lightly textured and oxidized to complement the earthy, weathered quality of the marcasite.
